Release Date Approacheth!

Busy few weeks coming up. As some of you may recall (heh), my first novel, Sand & Water, releases a week from tomorrow (August 15). I’ve got several posts planned here leading up to it. I’ll have a guest blog for Cup O’ Porn later in the week. On the 15th, I’ll be taking over the Dreamspinner Press blog and will have giveaways and snippets to share. The following Saturday, the 20th, I’ll be chatting at Dreamspinner’s Goodreads page.

In the meantime, I’m working on two submissions due next week, and another due at the end of the month. Not to mention trying to get some actual writing time! And then there’s Dragon*Con weekend, and I’m working on setting up a “meet the authors” event (or two) for several of the M/M authors who’ll be attending.

I should start buying lottery tickets again. Maybe if I win, I can hire someone to do all the ancillary things so I can just write!

Cover Art and Coming Soon!

My first novel, Sand & Water, is now coming soon at Dreamspinner Press! Release date is August 15. It’ll be available in both ebook and print.

The blurb:

Widower John McConnell gets along fine raising his daughter on Georgia’s Tybee Island, though he wouldn’t exactly say he’s happy. Haunted by the memory of his dead wife, John hasn’t considered dating again until he meets Bryan Simmons in the park. It isn’t long before John realizes that what he feels for Bryan could be something real, but how will he know he’s ready to move on?

As John soon discovers, Bryan carries some heavy emotional baggage of his own. With John’s help, Bryan starts to put his demons to rest, and together they lay the foundation for a relationship. It looks like they might finally leave their tragedies behind them—until John takes a misstep that could turn a magical night together into their last.

Reese Dante has done an absolutely gorgeous job on my cover art. Check it out:

That’s Bryan on the left and John on the right, just for the record. 🙂

I’m just a wee bit excited!!

Six Sentence Sunday: Sand & Water

Missed last week because I was traveling and internet-less, but back for this week’s Six Sentence Sunday with a paragraph from my upcoming first novel, Sand & Water.

Bryan’s fingers brushed over the light stubble along John’s jaw, and his thumb rubbed the edge of John’s chin. The light touches sent tingles across John’s skin, raising goosebumps like a cool breeze on a warm day. His body wanted more, the desire and arousal inside him begging to be set free, but he tamped it down. Slow and steady, he told himself. This feels amazing. Enjoy every moment.

Home Again, Galleys, and Plotbunny Attacks

My weekend away turned out to be a bit of a rollercoaster, starting with traffic backups and the wifi at the lodge working only intermittently (and never in my room). But I slept and rested a lot, did some reading and writing, and ate hand-dipped chocolate-covered fruit, so all is right with the world.

I got home on Monday to find galleys for Sand and Water waiting for me, so I’ll be going over those for the next few days. So excited! Cover art should be ready soon too. Of course I’ll share that as soon as I can. 🙂

I had a plotbunny (he gave his name as Andrew) attack over the weekend, and it seems to be growing into a whole universe. A trilogy, perhaps. Maybe more. It’d be nice if the world-building part kept rolling out but the actual story-writing part would hold off until I get some more done on the other main projects!

Cover Art and Long Weekends

I’m excited about the progress of the cover art for my upcoming novel release, Sand and Water. The drafts have been gorgeous, and I think we’ve settled on a final design. As soon as I get the go-ahead, I’ll be sharing, of course!!

I’m also lucky to have a long weekend coming up. I’m off Monday for Independence Day, plus we get an early release tomorrow. I’m driving up to north Georgia to play tourist a little and spend a couple of nights at a state park lodge. (And eat chocolate! There’s a great local candy store up there.)

My plan is to rest, read, and write. I have a fanfic bigbang project to finish revising, and multiple original stories in various stages of completion, as usual. I’m also judging a writing competition, so I’ll be diving in those stories, and I have several new books to read, including the latest from my friend Barbara Wallace.

And yes, I will have internet access! No idea how reliable it’ll be, but even a rustic lodge at a small state park has wifi. Heck, I bet the primitive campsites have it!

Updates, get yer updates!

First up, Dreamspinner is now taking pre-orders for the First Time for Everything Daily Dose set, which will give you a story a day for the month of June. Right now, you can get the whole set for just $39.99! Prices go up as the release date approaches, so order early. Individual stories, including my story “Chicago,” will go on sale in June.

And my other bit of news: I have a contract on my novel! Sand and Water is tentatively set for a late summer release (also with Dreamspinner). More details as I have them!

Done!

The novel is submitted!

Wow, that was hard. I had to hold my breath and force myself to hit send. By far the hardest it’s been to submit a story, even the first one.

Now all I have to do is get buried in another project so I won’t sit around fretting and wondering until I hear back on the novel. 🙂

Almost there!

Final notes for the novel are in from my last beta. She only had a few small comments, and since everything else is ready to go (synopsis, email body), I might actually get the submission out tonight.

!!!

I’m not going to know what to do with myself! … okay, actually, I do, but “work on novel #2” is a lot easier said than done. 🙂

Inching Closer

One final beta on the novel received, and comments incorporated. I also made a few more passes to fix some formatting and wording issues and get it generally in better shape. The synopsis is written, and my other beta has said Wednesday for her comments, so there’s a chance I might get this thing submitted by next weekend!

That assumes I survive another move first, of course. 🙂

Settling in…

Getting started with the new blog and website. I actually have pages now! There’s an about me and a bibliography and even a free read! More to come as I figure things out. 🙂

In the meantime, I’m writing and editing, as usual. I edited my friend D.M. Grace‘s first novella, which she just submitted, and she’s nearly done with her edits on my first novel. I’m dividing my time a little between fanfiction and original fiction right now, since I’m involved with my fandom’s second big bang event (including writing not one, but two stories. Ack). I’m waiting for a response on an anthology submission, I have another story written for a later anthology but not edited/revised yet, and I’m developing three different novel ideas, including a sequel to the first novel.

So, my plate is a little full right now! And that’s without getting into the real-life things. Which I won’t.

I used the editor hat a little extra this week. An author on a mailing list asked for help with ellipses and em dashes, which come in very handy for writers but can carry some pretty strict rules along with them. I gave a little explanation and some examples, with a few follow ups, and a couple of people thanked me for it. Maybe I should start doing some of those here? I mean, I’m no Grammar Girl, but I’ve been editing professionally for 20 years, so I have a few tricks up my sleeve. If nothing else, specific examples might be helpful. That seemed to be the most appreciated on the mailing list.

We’ll see how it goes, and what people want to read. Other than more fiction!
