Good News & Bad News

Good news: I received a contract offer yesterday from Amber Allure for my college-roommates novella Accidental Love. It will be published as part of the “Hot College Daze” theme. Tentative publication date is February 2012. 🙂

Bad news: I think I’m going to have to give up on NaNo this time around. Not the story; I’m going to keep working on that. But various real-life events are going to make it impossible for me to pile up the word count I’d need to hit 50k this month. Disappointing, sure, but the story itself is still in good shape, so it won’t be too terrible. (Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself…)

Discounts & Giveaways from Dreamspinner Press

My primary publisher, Dreamspinner, has a few specials going on through the end of the month:

  1. The 2011 Advent Calendar set, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, is still just $49.99 if you preorder by November 25. You’ll receive a story a day throughout the month of December, including one from me! 🙂
  2. The We Are Thankful Sale offers 20% off everything on the Dreamspinner website through November 30.
  3. The Dreamspinner Facebook page has a code good for 15% off one order of any size, good for the next year.
  4. And finally, every purchase on the DSP website between now and November 30 enters you in a drawing for a Kindle Fire, with the winner to be drawn on December 1.

Go forth and treat yourself! 🙂

Coming Soon Titles, and a Freebie

My writing retreat weekend didn’t yield as many words as I would’ve liked, but I did more than double my NaNo word count, so that’s something. Plus, I had a great time and relaxed a lot, which I needed more than anything!

Update time: As I mentioned before, I’ll have two short stories out for the holidays. “Of Holiday Spirits, Wake-Up Calls, and Happily Ever Afters” will be part of Dreamspinner’s 2011 Advent Calendar set. Blurb:

How many chances does a man get before it’s too late? When Guy staggers home after a raucous Christmas Eve with his closest friends, he’s visited by a spirit who looks suspiciously like Teddy, the friend Guy’s secretly crushing on. Can Guy learn the lessons of the past—and make the right choices in the present—so his future will be less about one night and more about forever?

You can still preorder the full set through November 25 for $49.99. Starting December 1, you can buy the individual stories (mine will be $1.49) or get the whole set for $64.99.

The second story, “In From the Cold,” will be out December 22 from Silver Publishing. Blurb:

Jeff Young is starting a year-long sabbatical in rural north Georgia, but he arrives at the cabin he rented only to find the power’s out after an ice storm. Looking for a warm place to spend a night or two, Jeff meets Neal Owens, the owner of a rustic lodge, who sets him up in one of the unfinished bungalows. Their friendly conversation over dinner soon develops into a hot encounter between the sheets, but can their unexpected night together become something more?

Bonus: if you preorder any “coming soon” title on the Silver website now through next Monday (November 20), you’ll earn triple points on the purchase. Just $1.99 for mine!

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for something FREE to read, check out my short “Christening” (link to PDF file). This was originally offered as part of Dreamspinner’s Halloween Howl promotion. Enjoy!

And finally, for those who took me up on the offer for free swag, never fear, I’m getting those sent out this week! (I am notoriously slow at making it to post office.)

A Free Read, A 5-Star Review, and A Pretty Pretty Picture

While I’m waiting to hear back from the mechanic about car repairs (my car has sprung an oil leak), a few housekeeping notes:

My m/m short “Christening,” part of the Dreamspinner Press Halloween Howl promotion, can be downloaded here, if you haven’t located it on your own yet. 🙂

Musings of a Bookworm gave Sand & Water a lovely 5-star review. A snippet: If you like reading a story about the human condition this is the book for you. It is gentle and stunning and you won’t regret the journey.

And finally, I have beautiful cover art by Reese Dante for my short “In From the Cold,” part of Silver Publishing’s Dreaming of a White Christmas set:

Oh myyyyy, that’s one blue eye!

(The blurb for the story: When Jeff Young walks into the rural Georgia lodge Neal Owens runs, he’s just looking for a room to escape a frigid December night. What he ends up finding is a new friend, a lover, and maybe more, all wrapped up in one hot package.)

Advent Calendar Pre-orders Available

Aha! Pre-orders are up for the Dreamspinner Press 2011 Advent Calendar set, I’ll Be Home for Christmas. You’ll get 31 stories in all, one delivered each day in December to your bookshelf on the DSP site. The full story list is included under “Excerpts” on the sale page. (My contribution is a short story, Of Holiday Spirits, Wake-Up Calls, and Happily Ever Afters.)

The full set is $39.99 for the rest of October. It goes to $49.99 after that, and the regular price in December will be $64.99. Individual stories will also be available for purchase in December, but pre-ordering now is by far the best deal. 🙂

Dreamspinner’s Halloween Howl

Dreamspinner Press is holding a special event this month! Here’s the info:

To celebrate Halloween, Dreamspinner is inviting people to come trick-or-treating at our web site. Thirty-one of our fantastic authors have donated free short stories. Search through the different pages on the web site for Gary the gargoyle. Each time you find him, click on him for a free download by the author whose page he’s hiding on! And make sure to check out the end of each story for a discount code good any time in the next year.

Dreamspinner will also be offering 25% off all orders this weekend. Have fun searching and stocking up! 🙂

Two Things… Okay, Three Things!

Thing #1: Because several people have asked, yes, I do have seedlings for a sequel to Sand & Water in mind. I’m not foolish enough to make promises (at least not until something is actually written!), but I’d like to revisit John and Bryan just as much as some of you would. 🙂

Thing #2: Dreamspinner Press is the featured publisher at All Romance Ebooks for the rest of this month, which means a 25% rebate on all titles. Go on over and take advantage!

Thing #3: Particularly aimed at those attending GayRomLit next month, the Goodreads M/M Romance Group has put together a free anthology, Don’t Read in the Closet, featuring stories from 27 of the authors who’ll be in attendance. I don’t have a story in the anthology, but that isn’t going to stop me from reading it!!

Sold, Again!

Dreamspinner is taking my second holiday-themed story, so I’ll have two new shorts out in December. 🙂

That also means I just have one more submission out, so I should really get busy on some of my works in progress…

Dragon*Con, Blog Feature, and Sale!

Back home after an incredibly busy, very tiring, and hugely fun Dragon*Con weekend! I was thrilled to get to meet a bunch of other M/M authors and spend a few hours talking with them, plus the readers and others who came by to say hi. I even sold a couple of books, woo! I’ll try to get into a little more detail after I’ve had time to rest up a bit. 🙂

Of course, D*C made me a day late on this, but Lou Sylvre was nice enough to feature me at her blog yesterday. She asked some great questions, and she assured me my answers didn’t come across as fuzzy-headed as I was feeling when I wrote them up Saturday afternoon! She also has information on Sand & Water, including a couple of excerpts. Stop by and check it out!

And finally, I’m pleased to announce that Silver Publishing will be including my short story “In From The Cold” in their 25 Days of Christmas collection in December!

Bestseller Lists: Good For My Ego ;)

Kind of ridiculously excited to see Sand & Water at #4 on the bestseller list at Rainbow Ebooks! I didn’t even think to check until today, so it might’ve been higher at some point, but that’s still pretty awesome to see!

It’s also #7 on Dreamspinner’s bestsellers list. Wheee!
