Literary Nymphs Chat: First Time for Everything

The authors in Dreamspinner’s First Time for Everything Daily Dose Set will be chatting this weekend at the Literary Nymphs Yahoo group. We’ll have excerpts and info and all sorts of things!

The set is available for preorder at $49.99 through May 25, and you’ll receive a story every day for the month of June. Individual story sales start June 1. My story “Chicago” is included:

Darren Lowell and Nathan Thomas are at loose ends in the Windy City. Darren came to visit his boyfriend, but after one too many insults, he dumped the conceited jerk and is taking some time to clear his head. Nathan just left the military and has a few days free before settling down into civilian life and beginning the job-search grind. A chance meeting in a hotel lobby that progresses into a spectacular night will make Chicago a whole lot more interesting for them both. Chicago may not just be a brief stop on their journeys—it could be the starting point for a passionate new future.

Hope to see you chatting!

Wrapup: Gaylaxicon/Outlantacon

My first “official” author event was a huge amount of fun. I didn’t stress out terribly, other than, as I’ve told several people, feeling like I was turned up to 11 all the time, which is exhausting! 🙂

I had a wonderful time with Ariel Tachna and Nicki Bennett, who are funny and fabulous and plied me with mimosas, mmmm. We spend quite a bit of time writing, both during lulls at the table and after hours. I also got to meet Kiernan Kelly and Kayelle Allen, who are awesome. And, in an astounding feat, Eugie Foster and I met at a non-Dragon*Con-related event and the world did not come to an end! (For our next trick, we’ll try something unrelated to any convention. Be afraid.)

We had a pretty steady stream of people at the table throughout the weekend, and it was interesting to me as a first-timer to see what drew their attention. While I did have something on the table (the Uniform Appeal anthology, all I have in print with Dreamspinner at this point), the convention is, of course, oriented toward scifi/fantasy, so that’s most of what we had available. I’ve been reading almost exclusively contemporary so far, but I picked up a ghost story and found a few more I want to read, too.

(Also, after telling Andrea Speed via Twitter that I’d sold a copy of Infected: Prey, I ended up in one of the most surreal tweet exchanges ever. It’s a very long story involving rental animal ripoffs.)

I spent other money, too, of course. The biggest thing: I ordered a corset. I’ve been thinking about getting one for a while, and the guys from Marvelous Mayhem were on hand with some of their beautiful products. Mine will need to be custom, since the standard size is too small in the bust and too large in the hips (as usual for me), so I won’t have it in time for this year’s Dragon*Con. But look out in 2012! 😉

Downside: I never did get to meet Amber Benson. Ah well. With any luck, she’ll be at Dragon*Con sometime soon!

Free Books at Dreamspinner!

I’ll have a post about Gaylaxicon/Outlantacon as soon as I have more than two free minutes (short version: AWESOME), but here’s a quick reminder to grab the freebies at Dreamspinner Press for the rest of this week!

Monday May 16, Litha’s Constant Whim by Amy Lane

Wednesday May 18, Promises by Marie Sexton
Thursday May 19, His Hearth by Mary Calmes
Friday May 20, Love Means… No Shame by Andrew Grey
Saturday May 21, Luke by Jan Irving

I’ve read Promises, Love Means… No Shame, and Luke, and I can highly recommend all three. I haven’t read the other three yet, but I love the authors, so I can’t wait to read them!

(A note: For some reason, I’m not able to see the anniversary information on the front page of the website right now, but I went to the author page to get the link to the book and had no problem that way.)

Updates, get yer updates!

First up, Dreamspinner is now taking pre-orders for the First Time for Everything Daily Dose set, which will give you a story a day for the month of June. Right now, you can get the whole set for just $39.99! Prices go up as the release date approaches, so order early. Individual stories, including my story “Chicago,” will go on sale in June.

And my other bit of news: I have a contract on my novel! Sand and Water is tentatively set for a late summer release (also with Dreamspinner). More details as I have them!

Vote for Model Student!

Okay guys, time to get those voting fingers in business!

The GORGEOUS cover fabulous artist Paul Richmond created for my novella Model Student is up for grabs as a limited-edition giclee print. The catch? First it has to win his “Uncovered” contest. It’s up against three tough contenders, but I don’t think I’m totally biased when I say it’s the best. Okay, maybe I am, but still. 😉

You can get complete information on the contest, and a bunch of awesome bonus material from Paul, at Elisa’s Reviews and Ramblings. If you’d rather cut right to the chase, you can go HERE to vote. Three winners will receive the first three limited-edition prints of the chosen image, along with some other great prizes too!

For those who need a refresher, here’s the image in question:

*STARES*

The winning print will be displayed in the Dreamspinner Press booth at Gay Days in Orlando, June 2–5, so no matter who wins, if you’re there, be sure to check it out!

Voting runs through April 27, with the winner announced on April 28. So GO GO GO! VOTE VOTE VOTE!

Brief Encounters Reviews “The Cabin on the Hill”

Jenre at Brief Encounters has given “The Cabin on the Hill” a lovely review. A sampling:

… the whole story is handled with a light, gentle touch and I finished it feeling not only that I’d read something engaging and fun, but also that I was optimistic about the relationship between these men working in the long term.

Thanks, Jenre!

Sold! “Chicago” + Uniform Appeal

I’m happy to announce that my short story “Chicago” will appear in the Dreamspinner Press First Time for Everything Daily Dose Set, to be released in June.

Tonight, I’m reviewing final galleys for my story “Discovering Columbus,” which is part of the Uniform Appeal anthology, set for release on April 11. There’s cover art, too, check it out!
