Self-Publishing and Sales Channels

This is basically self-publishing navel-gazing, so feel free to skip it. But if you’re interested, here are some thoughts on sales and distribution as a self-published author.

For my original self-published books, I’ve been using three primary publishing routes: Amazon, PayHip, and Draft2Digital. Draft2Digital distributes to Barnes & Noble, Kobo, iBooks*, and several other smaller retailers and subscription services. They also keep adding new distribution channels, and so far, I’ve added my books to those as they’ve come available.

What that means is that my four original self-published novellas and the bundle are available a bunch of different places beyond the big names: Inktera, 24Symbols, Scribd, Tolino, and Playster. You can also get them through Kobo’s subscription service, Kobo Plus.

(*A note about iBooks: the publishing requirements for iBooks are more strict than those for other retailers, which is why only the Hands On bundle is available through that channel. That might change at some point.)

As far as the second-edition stories I’ve self-pubbed, so far, I’ve only put them up on Amazon (and into Kindle Unlimited). I will have a collection of previously published short stories coming later this year, and that one will likely go into other sales channels as well.

At any rate, if you can’t find my books on your favorite retailer’s website, drop me a line and let me know, and I’ll look into it!

Rhythm & Blues Release Week

Whew! It’s been a busy week. I visited several blogs for the release of Rhythm & Blues, and I’ve had several nice reviews.

Monday: At Joyfully Jay, I talked about my inspiration for Rhythm & Blues and the other novellas I have in the works and offered a brief exclusive excerpt.

Tuesday: For The Novel Approach, I wrote about working with the amazing AngstyG to create the gorgeous cover art for the novellas.

Thursday: At Love Bytes, I featured the two celebrities who inspired Pate and Ace, the main characters in the novella.

Saturday: For my Outside the Margins post at Prism Book Alliance, I gave a tongue-in-cheek overview of the self-publishing process.

I’ve also been grateful to receive a number of good reviews so far. 🙂

Joyfully Jay: “Two engaging, lovely characters, a miscommunication that is resolved quickly and believably, sweeping romance, and an all around feel good tale.”

Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words: “If you like sweet MM romances with a slow burn that ultimately leads to some smoking hot times, this one is for you.”

Hearts on Fire Reviews: “I liked that Pate realizes he loves dance but is firmly grounded in reality. That reality includes the renovation of the building for his dance studio.”

Three Books Over the Rainbow: “I believe the writer’s aim was to entertain and give the reader an enjoyable hour in fantasy land. She perfectly succeeded.”

Just Love Romance: “While the attraction between Pate and Ace was palpable from the beginning, I liked that they both focused on the project at hand and got to know each other before taking things further.”

Love Bytes: “I highly recommend you check this out, if like me you just need some good ol’ lovin to pick you up.”

Oh My Shelves: “This was a really light and sweet read from a new to me author.”

Huge thanks to everyone who’s bought Rhythm & Blues, and happy reading!

Rhythm & Blues Links

A quick post to put all the info for Rhythm & Blues in one place for easy linking. 🙂

When life tears apart your dream, build a new one.

After a knee injury ended his career, Broadway dancer Pate Hawkins limped his way back from New York to Atlanta to implement Plan B: open a dance academy to train the next generation of song-and-dance dreamers. When model-gorgeous contractor Ace Samson answers his request for an estimate on renovating his studio space, Pate hits pay dirt in more ways than one. As construction gets underway, the red-hot attraction between the two men flares, and soon they develop a fledgling relationship. Then the siren song of the stage calls Pate back, and he has to choose between the dream he left behind and the new life he’s building—with his studio, and with Ace.

Updates, We’ve Got Updates!

A quick check-in from the midst of the whirlwind. After a dayjob conference in Denver last week, I spent the weekend working on the next novella (due to my editor the first weekend in June) and helping get ready for the roomie’s (JP Barnaby’s) family to come visit. I’ll be spending this coming weekend in Orlando going to Disney, which cuts into my writing time by a lot, but considering I keep doing a lot of writing on airplanes (2,300 words on the flights to and from Denver), I should be able to make some progress anyway.

(For the record, the tentative release date for Tongue & Groove is August 29.)

Rhythm&Blues_webIn the meantime, I’ve sent the final proof corrections for Rhythm & Blues to the formatter. As soon as that’s done, I’ll get the files uploaded to AllRomance and Draft2Digital, so non-Amazon order links should start showing up soon. Less than a month until release now! (And thank you to those who have pre-ordered so far. <3)

I also have a tentative release date for my next Dreamspinner novella, Accidental Fall, which is a re-release of a former Amber Allure title. Look for that on September 21.

Still to come: a third M/M novella, and then probably an F/F one, if life cooperates. That’ll take me into early 2017, and we’ll see where things go from there. 🙂

Rhythm & Blues Cover Art and Preorders

As you may have seen at Prism Book Alliance earlier today, the cover art for Rhythm & Blues is in the wild! And it’s a doozy, too. Just take a gander at this:

Design is by the amazing AngstyG, and I adore it.

Here’s the blurb and links for the story:
