Elisa Reviews Accidental Love

Dashing in after a weekend away to link to the lovely review Elisa Rolle gave my college-boys novella Accidental Love. A snippet:

Another point I liked is that these guys are romantic at heart, they want love and roses, boyfriend and kisses; sure the sex is good, but that is not what they will bring back, and along, into their life. I can imagine these two in 40 years still being together, and happy.

Thanks, Elisa! 🙂

Six Sentence Sunday: Trevor

I haven’t done one of these in a while, but with fresh writing on the page for the first time in much too long (yay!), I thought I’d share a little snippet. 🙂

When they got to their room, Evan didn’t expect anything more than more talking and a decent night’s sleep. He was shocked when, after locking the door firmly behind them, Lucas dropped his duffel on the floor, took Evan’s face in both of his large, rough hands, and kissed him like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Because it was.

That night, Evan learned who he really was for the first time. Lucas taught him everything he knew, even though he admitted readily it was just the tip of the iceberg. But when Lucas slid his fingertips firmly across that spot inside Evan’s ass and sucked Evan’s dick hard, Evan swore he’d found all the answers he’d ever need.

A few very quick updates from a very busy few weeks:

  • Finally broke 10,000 words on my primary current WIP, Trevor. Woot!

Interviewed at Cafe Risque

Cafe Risque logoI had the great fun of being interviewed by my friend Scotty Cade for Spicy Wednesday over at Cafe Risque. We talked about my first novel Sand & Water, which was released a year ago (!!!), as well as about about writing processes, living in the South, and plans for GayRomLit. Come on over and enjoy! 🙂

New Contract: En Fuego

I’m happy to announce that my novella En Fuego has been accepted for publication with Dreamspinner Press. Tentative release date is December 2012.

The preliminary blurb:

Marshall Ramirez wasn’t looking to fall in love, but from the moment firefighter Brad Flannery walks through the doors of Marsh’s veterinary clinic, he’s smitten. Marsh and Brad’s relationship is just getting off the ground when the dangers of Brad’s job hit a little too close to home. Will the fiery passion they share be enough to keep them together?

Guest Post: J. P. Barnaby and Little Boy Lost

Last year, I was fortunate enough to befriend J. P. Barnaby, first online as fellow Dreamspinner Press authors, and then in person at GayRomLit in New Orleans. When she asked if I’d like to be a stop on the Little Boy Lost blog tour, needless to say I jumped at the chance! Like many others, I waited for the last book to be ready before I started reading the series; I’m halfway through as I write this, and I’m so glad I waited, because there’s no way I would’ve survived the wait between releases. It’s highly recommended reading for everyone. 🙂

My Writing Process

Shae Connor challenged me a little with her topic request. Until I sat down to write this blog post, I didn’t think I had a writing “process.” I’d start with a blank page—sometimes paper, sometimes electronic, and then I’d make use of it, writing until there’s nothing left to say. As I thought more closely about Shae’s questions, other things came to mind. I send my books for a read with my critique partner Rowan Speedwell at around 25,000 words because somewhere along the way, I lose my confidence. I don’t outline. I don’t plan. I listen to my characters and tell the story they want me to tell. So, I guess I do have a writing process after all. So, here it is—everything I’m consciously aware of—the good, the bad, the ugly, and the downright bizarre.

Midsummer-y

The last few weeks have been so jam-packed with activity that I’ve barely had a moment to breathe. I’ve had friends in town, gone to New York with friends, worked the day job, and finished some editing work. I’d signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo, but there was just no way with my schedule that I’d make any progress. And the next couple of months will be almost as busy, with trips to Ohio, Chicago, and Gatlinburg on the calendar, and Dragon*Con in there, too.

I’m home today for the Independence Day holiday, so I’m playing a bit of catch-up. Laundry is on the list, but more than anything, I’m trying to get some writing done. Trevor is my current big project, but I have two smaller ones with deadlines that are fast approaching. And, of course, I have a full pipeline of ideas waiting after that. The plotbunnies stop for no one!

I hope everyone in the US has a safe and happy Independence Day, and that everyone else has a great Wednesday. 🙂

Six Sentence Sunday: Trevor

From the story I’m working on for CampNaNoWriMo:

“Okay, then, make it two club sodas, please.”
The bartender nodded and started on the drinks, and Evan pulled out another cigarette, figuring he’d get one more smoke in with the soda. Riley shook his head.
“Those are bad for you, you know.”
It was all Evan could do not to crack up. Shit, on the list of bad-for-you things he’d done, cigarettes barely broke the top ten.
